When Tim first contacted me he told me he wanted to rent a photo booth for a birthday party for his girlfriend. Awesome! Sounds like fun. Then I found out it was going to be on the rooftop of Plenty Mercantile in Oklahoma City! It was going to be a fun boho theme. He was getting a DJ and there would be food and drinks. Now, I was super excited. It couldn’t have gotten any better. Then it did. He later covertly contacted me to tell me that the birthday party was all part of a grand plan for a surprise proposal. This was going to be epic and I wanted to do everything I could to help. If you don’t already know, I’m also a wedding photographer. Feel free to check out my work at Blue Elephant Photography. Not only did we rock out the photo booth for the engagement after party but I got the chance to capture the beautiful proposal on the rooftop of Plenty Mercantile.
The rooftop at Plenty Mercantile is a really special venue. Celebrating both the proposal and Tovan’s birthday, it was a rockin’ party. I love the industrial vibe, the bistro lights, and the views of the OKC city skyline. The only thing with being on a rooftop in Oklahoma is that it can get pretty windy! Normally we require that we’re in a space that’s protected from the elements. We can be setup outside, but normally this means we need something like a tent or awning. But I knew this was a very special event and we always try to do everything we can to make it all come together. We brought our ever popular white & gold mermaid sequin backdrop. We setup and everything looked good until a big gust of wind took the backdrop like a sail and it journeyed across the roof until it broke into pieces. Being in the wedding industry, you need to be ready for anything. Luckily, the old brick walls at Plenty Mercantile actually looks pretty cool. In the end, we made it work. In fact, I think it was all meant to be ’cause I think it turned out even better. If you’re planning on renting a photo booth at Plenty Mercantile, consider just using the wall! It really was amazing being part of this surprise proposal and party. Congrats again Tim and Tovan!
